2019 Law Society Bencher Election – Vacancies

Nominations for the Benchers’ Election have closed. Unfortunately, the Law Society received only one (1) nomination for the two (2) vacancies in the Central District and no nominations for the one (1) vacancy in the Western District. Renee Appleby has been re-elected by acclamation in the Central District.

The Law Society Act, 1999, provides that, where there is a failure to elect the required number of Benchers, Benchers must appoint a person to fill the vacancy until the next election, therefore, the Law Society is seeking Expressions of Interest for this appointment. Any interested members in the Central District and Western District, who are practising and in good standing, should submit their names and a short synopsis outlining their qualifications by 17 April 2019 to Erin Rowe at: erin.rowe@lawsociety.nf.ca . Subject to eligibility, Benchers will appoint two of these individuals to fill the vacancies for one year. The members appointed can stand for election next year for the three years remaining in a four year term.
