Becoming a Bencher

Benchers are the governing body of The Law Society.  To become a Bencher of the Law Society members must complete nomination papers in Form 4 01A which must be filed with the Vice-President at the Law Society offices. Under s. 11 of the Law Society Act, 1999, to be eligible for nomination to Benchers a lawyer must be in good standing with the Law Society.  A notice is sent to lawyers in the spring of each year encouraging those interested to file Form 4 01A.

Committees/Volunteer services

Lawyers are encouraged to offer their services to the Law Society to assist it in its public protection mandate. Such service can be a rewarding experience for lawyers of all ages and in all areas of practice.

When a space becomes vacant on a Law Society Committee a notice is sent to all lawyers seeking expressions of interest in acting on that particular committee.
